Sewer is usually one of the deepest wet site utility pipelines that are installed compared to potable water pipelines. Sewer pipeline installations usually begin "offsite," in the street, on public property, and connect to an existing sewer main or manhole in the middle of the street.
All underground drainage systems must have access points, to enable the drains to be inspected on a regular basis and to be cleaned in the event of a blockage. The most common form of access is an inspection chamber, often still referred to as a manhole. In times gone by, manholes were actually large, bricked up chambers that had iron steps built into the wall, enabling a person to physically climb down into the drainage system. Now readymade RCC and plastic inspection chamber & manhole has replaced that giant brick and RCC work.
